PROJECT EIGHT– APRIL 2009
THISTLE HANGING – By Lynne Moncrieff

Lynne Moncrieff, a Crafty Individuals’ customer, sent us this gorgeous little wall hanging and then very kindly wrote us the following instructions, at our request, so that we could use it as a new project for you to make.
Crafty Individuals Products Used:
Additional Materials Used:
Purple & Green stamp pads
Dusty Concorde and Peeled Paint Distress Pads
2 pieces chipboard (7.5cm x 10.5cm)
Haza tissue paper
2 glass microscope slides
3 jump rings and 3 eyelets
purple bead and fibres in purple and green
beeswax and melt pot
strong glue
gloss glaze
Krylon pen or similar
To Make the Hanging
Cut a piece of tissue paper slightly larger than the chipboard base. Ink the thistles stamp with the purple and green pads in a random fashion. Stamp the thistles haphazardly onto the tissue paper, overlapping in places, and glue tissue to the chipboard with a glue stick or spray mount, adding creases for added interest. Smooth sides with a bone folder and leave to dry.
Ink the thistle stamps again as before and stamp onto the second piece of chipboard as focal images. Lightly sponge with the Distress inks. Cut around the individual images using a craft knife and colour edge with gold pen. Place the stamped chipboard pieces onto the tissue covered base to mark the place for the holes to be punched for the three eyelets and insert eyelets.
Heat the beeswax in a melt pot and then dip the edges of the glass slides into the wax. Do the same with the tissue covered base, allowing the wax to drip to add texture until satisfied. Use a clear glaze such as Anita’s 3d gloss to adhere the glass slides to each of the main thistle images, and attach the images to the tissue covered base with a strong glue.
To Finish
Attach 3 jump rings to the eyelets and thread purple and green fibres through the top eyelets to make a hanging. Tie and leave some fibres to hang loosely. Thread fibres through the bottom eyelet, attach a purple bead and tie a knot.
Hang and admire.
