    PROJECT FIVE – SEPTEMBER 2007

Gatefold Card – Santa's Baby - By Jean Hardy

It's high time we gave you another project to experiment with. As we’ve brought out 2 new background paper books, and with Christmas in mind, (hey – what happened to Summer), I have made a gatefold card, featuring Santa, of course, using our own Christmas background papers, plus stamp CI-164.

    To Decorate the Card

I used a ready-made cream gatefold card, measuring 14.5cm square, or you could fold your own. I used a paper punch to round the inner corners of the card and some of the papers (see example). I cut strips of papers out of the book; 2 measuring 4.5cm width x 13.8cm length, and another 2 strips: 1cm width x 13.8cm length – choose paper patterns to suit yourself. I glued these to the front of the card adding a thin strip of bought Christmas self-adhesive ribbon between the two papers.

    Inside the Card

I cut another piece of Christmas background paper 13.8cm square to fit the inside of the card and again used a paper punch to round the corners. I added a little panel of cream card, embellished with ribbon and eyelets to the centre, to take the personal greeting (see sample), and glued the whole lot to the inside of the card.

    To Finish the Card

I cut a piece of cream card for the central panel, in a similar colour to the original card blank, measuring 8cm x 9.5cm, and another smaller piece of white card for the centre, to take the Santa & Baby stamp. I decorated the smaller white piece with dabs of Adirondack Paint Dabbers, in Citrus and Sunset Orange, blended together on the card with a baby wipe. I then stamped CI-164 in Archival Black, onto white tissue paper, and glued this onto the hand coloured piece of card. I layered this with another patterned piece from the background papers book, added mini eyelets in red to the 4 corners, and glued to the slightly larger panel of cream card. To finish I used sticky fixers to layer the whole panel to the centre front (left hand side) of the finished card.
